Diverse range of crossovers, SUVs bolsters brand’s growth
DETROIT – With total sales up 28 percent year over year, GMC posted its best September since 2008, and the brand’s seventh consecutive month of year-over-year gains in total sales.
GMC’s Sierra pickup line gained strength in September, as total sales increased 20 percent year over year. The new 2015 Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD models continue to gain traction in the marketplace, and accounted for 27 percent of Sierra retail volumes last month.
Thanks to the new Sierra HD and the recent addition of the new 2015 Canyon midsize pickup, GMC offers a broad portfolio of pickup trucks unrivaled in the industry. Production and customer deliveries of the all-new Canyon began in late September.
GMC’s diverse range of crossovers and SUV models also performed well last month. Crossovers, including the Acadia and the Terrain, accounted for 38 percent of all GMC vehicles sold in September. Both models posted their best September result to date, as total sales for the Acadia and Terrain increased 15- and 16 percent year over year, respectively.
Likewise, the 2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL showed significant growth in September. Retail sales increased 76 percent over last September, marking seven consecutive months of year-over-year increases for both models.
“GMC’s growth in September hinged on offering distinctive style and sophistication in a number of packages, allowing a wide array of customers to find the one that best fits their lifestyle,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC. “Expanding our pickup portfolio, especially with the new Canyon, allows GMC to further expand its horizons and reach new customers.”
GMC has manufactured trucks since 1902, with innovation and engineering excellence built into all GMC vehicles. The brand is evolving to offer more fuel-efficient trucks and crossovers, including the Terrain small SUV and Acadia crossover. GMC’s highest-volume vehicle, the Sierra pickup, is the most powerful light duty pickup on the market, and the first full-size pickup to receive the highest possible five-star Overall Vehicle Score for safety since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration changed its New Car Assessment Program for the 2011 model year.
